Original monologues, scenes, music, and ensemble pieces written by the company members themselves explore this year’s theme: Identity. WHYC UNCENSORED gives audiences a rare, unfiltered glimpse into some of the most creative hearts and daring young voices in NYC's Washington Heights community.
The MCC Theater Youth Company, founded in 1999 as the first free youth company to be associated with a professional theater, is the longest operating ensemble of its kind in New York City. The company offers weekly acting and playwriting labs, led by leaders in the fields of theater arts and arts.
The Washington Heights Youth Company, created in 2010, is a program supported by The Emily Davie and Joseph S. Kornfeld Foundation and Hal Newman, is the first of many satellite ensembles seeking to adopt MCC’s model for creating drama with young adults on high school campuses across the city.
The Brooklyn Youth Company, launched in 2015 and funded by Cultural After School Adventures and the Kornfeld Foundation, is our second satellite company at the High School for Public Service.
